Julie’s Yoga Quiz…

What 1st brought you to Yoga?
My first yoga class was at a fitness center in Fremont called Sound mind and Body. It was one of those times in my life when I needed a commitment to getting in shape, so I thought a gym would be the answer. I tried yoga for the first time at this place and I knew after the first class that I was hooked. I actually felt good in my body. I felt a connection with my teacher, and I started going to class a lot. My next step was an emersion series at the Yoga Tree where I learned fundamentals like breath work, alignment, and philosophy.

What is your favorite Yoga book?
My favorite yoga book is Awakening the Spine by Vanda Scaravelli. Loaded with brilliant perspective on the role of gravity, how the spine moves with a flowing wave like motion.

What feeds your soul?
Walking around Seward Park feeds my soul. I call it my church.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
One of my favorite guilty pleasures is my afternoon nap: every day, no matter what.

Who or what most influences your teaching?
I am a new teacher, so I am influenced heavily by my favorite teachers. I love taking flow classes that challenge me. I try to teach authentically, something I learned from Baron Baptiste. First I have to find my truth, my voice, an organic me. I try to teach from that center; which is my heart.
